Find musicians to form a band
Happy New Year 2012! I’ve just left university where I had been in a really cool band, and all my bandmates have gone our separate ways so now I’m in a big city on my own I really want to get into a band again – to make some new friends and play some great music! So how do you find musicians to form a band with?
I’ve started looking at some band websites, like formingbands.com and joinmyband.com, but it’s pretty hard to find musicians into the same music as me. Most of the people on these sites are about 13 and just want to play emo! I’m much more of an indie kid, so I’ll just have to wait for the right post to come along.
But saying that, I do have an audition for a band tomorrow night. There was a band playing at my local venue the other evening, and they only had a rhythm guitarist, so I approached them after the gig to see if they wanted a lead guitarist. They said that I should come along to their next practice for a trial. Quite nervous, but I’ll let you know how I get on!
I’ve been to auditions before and it is really hard to play as well as you normally do, due to the nerves. So the important things are to get to know as much of their material as possible and just relax. They will be nervous too, and want someone who they feel they can get along with. Personality is vital, so just be yourself.
